Amanda Jane Wood
Amanda Jane Wood was born in 1964. Without knowing too much about her, she would find it inspiring, if people could observe her work and discover their own fantasies, meanings dreams and listen to the international language of colour….. “an expression of one’s inner reality”.
The English painter has just returned to the North East, after having livcd in Zürich, Switzerland for 17 years where she was a recognised artist. Amanda Jane originates from a family of artists and began painting in her early childhood. She perceives colour as a language possessing a vocabulary of its own. Individual colours have shades of meaning just as the written or spoken word. Pink may convey femininity or softness; red-love or danger. Amanda Jane uses colour to communicate her feelings or mood which she chooses to manipulate in her work. Her preferred medium is watercolour which provides a direct and spontaneous response to a subject-be it a land or seascape, still life or portrait. Amanda Jane finds watercolour the most challenging medium due to its elusive and unpredictable qualities.
Painting means that Amanda Jane can feel completely free, secretive and experience a sense of trust. It offers her a mode of escape from daily limitations and an immeasurable quality of life involving intense application and discipline.
