Saltburn Artists' faces new challenge.

Saltburn Gallery is currently closed for improvements and refurbishment.

Saltburn Artists' Projects has been going since 1998 providing studio spaces, a gallery, exhibition programme, community workshop space and a flat for artists in residence.

The project has enjoyed the financial support of the Arts Council (ACE) as well as funding from Redcar and Cleveland Council.

Given pressure on funding the Arts Council decided, from April 2012, to support a smaller number of arts based projects. SAP supported that approach but unfortunately was not one of the projects to receive continuing funding.

The Board and the 13 Studio Artists at Saltburn Artists’ Projects are determined to keep the project going. Work is underway to develop the project in a way where earned income will cover its costs. A grant has been submitted to ACE for funding to improve and extend the studios, upgrade the front elevation of the building and refurbish the artists in residence flat.

If successful with the grant application, work will start in June and should be finished by October. The Gallery will then be available for artists to curate exhibitions.

In the meantime all the studios are operational and the artists continue to develop their work and deliver projects within the region.

SALTBURNARTISTS’PROJECTS is a registered charity which has run the Saltburn Gallery, the adjoining Artists’ Studio Complex and an Arts Development Programme in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, since 1998.

The Saltburn Gallery exhibits a wide variety of different art forms from a range of artists and aims to create an inspirational environment for artists, curators, educationalists and the community.

The Artists’ Studio Complex consists of 10 affordable studio spaces that are rented by professional artists and makers. The range of different artistic disciplines being practiced in the studios means that it is an exciting and creative place to work.
